Classical At Home
About Us

Classical At Home is a network of families supporting one another as we seek to educate our children at home. The common denominator of our participants is their approach to education, namely a Classical approach. We base our approach on classical methods such as "The Well Trained Mind" by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer. We support all faiths and families in their Homeschool approaches. We do not require a statement of faith.

Our group, currently consisting of over 25 families, meets the first Wednesday of every month for student-related activities. Some examples of these include: History Day (children come dressed as a historical figure with clues to assist in guessing their identity), Reader's Theater (practice occurs on our Tuesday meeting with a Saturday performance for extended family and friends), Science Fair (typically in the Spring, students prepare displays and brief reports, mastering their topic adequately to answer questions), Spelling Bee (children divided into age/grade categories and quizzed in National Spelling Bee style). In addition to our planned activities, children take turns presenting book reports, poems, or other memorized material. Parents of the group meet the third Tuesday of each month to discuss a variety of topics pertaining to Classical education and to encourage one another in managing the rigors of home schooling.

Finally, Classical At Home organizes an annual Used Curriculum Sale designed as a service to the home schooling community.
